POE Explained

Power Over Ethernet (POE) setups allow you to both power and connect your camera to the internet using a single cable at a distance of up to 100 from the WiFi Router to the POE Switch and a further 100m to the camera.

An ethernet CAT5 cable runs from your home broadband hub or WiFi router to a POE switch (Which needs a power source)

CAT5 Cable then carries the power and data to the camera and there is no need for a separate power supply.

Here's what you need to know in simple terms:

  • The POE switch requires UK mains and combines both internet and power through the same cable so you only need ONE cable to connect and power your camera
  • The CAT5 cable can be up to 100 meters long from your router to the POE switch, and another 100 meters to your camera

The best option if you're happy/able to run a cable
